Concealed Carry Everywhere Essay Since the beginning of our nation after the Declaration of Independence was signed, individuals have had the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Inside these ‘rights’ is the right to bear arms. Is that wrong? Should all people have access to firearms? As stated in the second amendment, we as a nation and individuals have every right to own our own weapons. Therefore, it is your right to either own a weapon or not. There are some who buy a gun, put it in their gun cabinet, and never look at it again for years. Others shoot their guns regularly at ranges, take it to go on a hunting trip, or keep it close to their bed at night if they live in areas with a high crime rate, and these are all practices of using a gun that are considered to be proper uses. On the other hand, there are those who obtain them illegally and use them to harm, murder, rape, or put fear in other citizens. Most states offer a concealed handgun license that you can get when you turn twenty-one by going through the right course in order for you to carry a weapon around legally. The right to bear arms is an important symbol of an individual’s freedoms that our founding fathers established for those who understood the proper and improper uses when you bear arms, and anyone or anything trying to take that away is morally unjust and unconstitutional. If you live in a suburb or rural area surrounding a city you usually do not live in fear of someone trying to rob, hurt, or attack you while you are walking down a street. Yet it is still good to keep a firearm around just in case one of these scenarios occur. If you live in a city with a good amount of people, it is a totally different story. We do not live in the wild west anymore so it would be uncommon to see a man walking down the street strapped up with shotguns and pistols looking like he is going to war. Now that we live in the twenty-first century we have certain laws that require you to get a concealed handgun license. Carrying a concealed weapon doesn’t mean that someone is planning on using the gun to rob a bank or hold up a gas station, it is just a citizen arming themselves the legal way just in case they need to use it to protect themselves or anyone in danger. Giving citizens the chance to get these licenses shows trust, our individual freedoms, and â€Å"it is part of the reason why we have a lower crime rate† (Bush) than we would if we didn’t have citizens with licenses. In highly populated areas across the U. S. there is always going to be a high crime rate due to the amount of people crowded into one area. In every major city there are one or more major college universities. Almost all colleges have a ban on the allowance of guns on campus, and this is partly due to the Students for Gun Free Schools (SGFS). According to statistics pulled from an SGFS essay there is â€Å"an undeniable fact that college causes typically have a lower crime rate than the cities in which they reside. † Some people believe that this is all because guns are not allowed on campus, but I believe that this counter argument is not necessarily true. Most of the reasons that crime rates are lower are because it is a college campus, not a city. The crimes that occur there are mostly thefts and assaults, but not murder and rape. This is because at a college campus there are a bunch of young like-minded individuals who would help a person in need if they saw something wrong happening. However, just because you can carry around a weapon does not mean that you should go to a highly populated area such as malls, airports, sport events, bars, clubs, and banks with your weapon. Even professionals whose job it is to teach concealed handgun courses believe that there are certain times you should carry your weapon and times when you shouldn’t, for the safety of the general public. By bringing your weapon into a crowded public area you can put every individual in the vicinity in danger. Any situation can turn into mass chaos if shots are fired by a gunman and police because bullets miss their intended targets. Many people believe that since the states adopted the CCW right (concealed carry weapon right) that there has been an increase in killings and violent crime rates. In all actuality the states that allow these rights have seen violent crime and murder rates go down, significantly. Florida is one of 40 states with the â€Å"right-to-carry† statutes that give citizens the ability to carry concealed handguns with the proper license†, and this lets citizens â€Å"stand their ground and fight back when attacked. †(Bush). It is funny that George Bush said that because he brings a good topic up. When there is a chance for good citizens to own their own weapons it gives them a chance to stop crime. According to Executive Director Joe Waldron of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA). â€Å"Isn’t it ironic that while Florida, with an armed citizenry, is enjoying a drop in crime, and Washington, D.  C. , where citizens are legally disarmed, is experiencing a crime epidemic? †(Waldron). This shows how being able to carry a concealed weapon can really be to the benefit of the individual and the community. The concealed carry group is not the ones committing the crimes. A big reason that citizens get these licenses is because they’ve heard stories in their communities of theft and break-ins or it is something that their family believes in. They are just trying to protect themselves, their loved ones, friends, and those whom they have never met. This makes them more of a guardian than the supposed wrong doers with guns. This is a fact, most of the gun carriers are just trying to keep the ones around them safe, â€Å"of the 2. 5 million times citizens use their guns to defend themselves every year, the overwhelming majority merely brandish their gun or fire a warning shot to scare off their attackers. Less than 8% of the time, a citizen will kill or wound his/her attacker (Synder). † When you are trained in the course they also teach you basic firing and aiming skills. When you are attacked and provoked to the point where you or someone else is in danger, the gun carrier knows different places he or she can shoot someone to only wound them until the authorities arrive. The opportunity to bear arms runs deeper than being able to stop burglars, murderers, and rapists. It is about the idea of being able to save a life. The feeling one person can get when they know they have done the right thing is something that is irreplaceable and something they will never forget. It also gives you a certain confidence or swagger that helps you sleep at night knowing you can protect yourself and others. When you hear news reports, or read articles attacking gun owners saying that â€Å"we shouldn’t own guns† think twice about who is writing it and why. These arguments are nothing more than attacks on our basic individual rights. H. L. Mencken said it best when he says, â€Å"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule it†, and this meaning that things are fine the way they are, and we shouldn’t try to change it. If there is a legal way to get a weapon in order to protect the public, then those who are brave enough to take the challenge should be allowed this privilege.

It is caused by the presence of two mutant alleles in the fibroblast growth factor receptor-3 (FGFR3). It is a substitution, to be precise, at nucleotide number 1138 in the DNA. This substitution on the DNA level results in a minute change on the protein level. This change in the protein impairs the function of the FGFR3 receptor. It is not currently known how this change produces the features of achondroplasia, but scientists are working on it. Ivy is the third generation in her family to be affected by achondroplasia. Her grandfather, her father, and her brother also have it. Achondroplasia is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait whereby only a single copy of the abnormal gene is required to cause achondroplasia. Nobody with the mutated gene can escape having achondroplasia. Many individuals with achondroplasia have normal parents, though. Of Mice and Men Main Question Essay

The question we are focussing on throughout the whole essay, which is the main theme, is whether Curley’s wife is a victim in the story or a tramp. The two different sides of Curley’s wife are hard to determine in Steinbeck’s ‘Mice and Men’, as she tends to swap roles from time to time. At points in the story we have reason to believe that that she is a victim, from the way she feels about Curley and her unattained future, which I will explore further on in the essay. I will also put across my points on how she can be a corrupting tramp by exploring her physical appearance, body language and other characters opinions of her. From Steinbeck’s letter we can see that she couldn’t really trust anyone from a young age because every time she trusted in anyone she got hurt. This shows her innocent side. There are not many points in Steinbeck’s letter that show that she is a corrupting tramp as he tends to mainly focus on her innocent side and he goes through all the times she got hurt and why she got hurt. I will now go on to explain my points in further detail. In this section I will explain how Curley’s wife could be an innocent victim in her life and in the eyes of others. She is the victim of the ‘American Dream’, her desire to go to Hollywood and be an actress, which was a dream that she could not fulfil because of her mother denying her to leave at such a young age. On page 125 she proves that she really could have been an actress by the text stated ‘She made a small grand gesture with her arm and hand to show that she could act. The fingers trailed after her leading wrist, and her little finger stuck out grandly from the rest’. This small quote shows how talented she could have been and it makes you feel heartbroken that she couldn’t fulfil her dream. From then on she has been crestfallen and cannot trust anyone, this shows her innocent side. She was told by a man that he could put her in the movies; she was thrilled as she wanted to be a famous actress and be sexy like Jean Harlow and Marilyn Monroe but when her mother said she couldn’t go she opted for an easier option to get out of where she was by marrying Curley. She says in the text on page 125 ‘I don’t like curley, he aint a nice fella’ which proves that she was forced to get married to him as it was the last option. Because Curley was the easiest and possibly the last option, he didn’t actually love her and just wanted to use her. She knew this and even though he treated her badly, she couldn’t leave him as she did love him. Even if she didn’t she had nowhere else to go so she was basically trapped in her own home. Her life with Curley is miserable which makes her even more upset about not being able to fulfil her dream and have freedom. In the story she confesses to Lennie the one thing that she’s never confessed to anyone, that she doesn’t actually like Curley and that she can’t escape for fear of what might happen. You can see from this that she just needs someone to talk to as she is so lonely and can’t really confide or talk to Curley about anything. The people on the ranch give her the same amount of respect that Curley does. When they call her or see her around the ranch they don’t associate her with her own name, to them she’s just Curley’s wife and they call her ‘Jailbait’ and ‘Good looking’. You can tell she gets frustrated by having no one to talk to when she gets angry on page 123 and says ‘What’s the matter with me? Aint I got a right to talk to nobody? Whatta they think I am anyways?’ In the story we don’t even find out what her name is which shows how much attention she gets for her looks instead of her personality which is where she wants most attention. From this we can see that she just wants someone to talk to. On the other hand there are main features we can see in the text that describe her to seem like a corrupting tramp. Looking at the way Steinbeck describes her physical appearance we can see how at first impressions she would come across as sluttish. For a start, he describes her outfit. On page 53 when she first appears the first impression would definitely come across as tramp- like as he says ‘She had full rouged lips and wide spaced eyes, heavily made up. Her fingernails were red. She wore a cotton dress and red mules. On the insteps of which were little bouquets of red ostrich feathers’. The dress and feather shoes give us a glance of how she wants to accentuate her body and her legs and its almost like she’s trying to prove that she could be a famous model and have pictures taken of her if she’d have had the chance to. The colour of the dress and shoes are red which propose danger as we usually approach red as a threatening colour. So from the start we can she that she is going to be trouble for George and especially Lennie due to previous circumstances with him and a girl. Her hair is described as ringlets like ‘sausages’ which is good use of foreshadowing as Lennie is described as an animal, and food is used as bait for animals therefore she literally is ‘Jailbait’. She wears lots of makeup to accentuate her facial features; this is another reason why she could be a corrupting tramp. The first time she walks into the ranch she leans against the door and leans forward to show off her body to Lennie and George, on page 53 Steinbeck states ‘She put her hands behind her back and leaned against the door frame so that her body was thrown forward’. With her accentuated make up and clothing she fails to receive a notice for her feelings and for her emotions and they only concentrate on the way she looks which tells George from the start that she is going to be trouble as she throws herself forward too much for attention. In the way she speaks you can hear the sexiness and huskiness of her voice, as described on page 53 when Steinbeck says ‘Her voice had a nasal, brittle quality’ which shows us that she wants to entice people or entrance them. To conclude I think it is important to include the death scene where Steinbeck describes her as being free and innocent after her death. He describes her in a child like form and finally being beautiful and achieving everything she needed to achieve because she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. This really finalises my decision for her being innocent because it shows that she really wasn’t ever, or didn’t ever mean to be, a corrupting tramp. Her excuse for wearing slutty and provocative clothes could be because she wanted love and affection which she couldn’t get from her own, broken relationship with Curley. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it wasn’t her fault. My conclusion is that I think she is innocent because of previous points that I have made and stated.

The reason for addressing this issue is I feel that Westernized society does not value old age to the extent we value youth. I want to become someone who teaches, an educator, a role model, a teacher. I want to help children in their early childhood education. I want to become a teacher because teachers play a very big role in children’s lives. Not only do they serve as educators, but for many kids, the classroom is where they feel the safest. They feel welcomed and at home. For these certain kids it is their one place of stability where they are always guaranteed to be loved and get fed and to have fun. I enjoy watching kids grow and helping them develop their learning skills. Every kid needs a good education and I want to be the one giving them that good education. I want to make a difference in their lives and prepare them for the road ahead. Personally, I aspire to teach the little ones. I believe that early childhood education is what I would enjoy best. Question: Describe about the United Nations National Security Strategy from a Geopolitical Perspective. Answer: Introduction: In the recent times many opportunities awaits America, however, the risk to the security remains. The National Security Strategy (NSS 2015) deals with the strategies that The United States have to structure to safeguard their national interests through sustainable and strong leadership. It contained the details that America shall use in the near future to influence the world in a positive way (Robert 2012). Furthermore, the NSS also contained the model of American leadership that is based on Americas technological and economic strength and the values of the American citizens. It laid the direction as to how the American administration shall work in partnership with the Congress, making America a durable place for peace and prosperity (Rowman Littlefield 2014). This report includes the geopolitical theory that is reflected in the NSS 2015, the challenges that are identified in the NSS 2015 and the ways of addressing the challenges identified (Jason 2013). The thesis of this report is that the geopolitical changes can be addressed appropriately with land, air and sea power. Geopolitical Theory and the NSS 2015: The most relevant geopolitical theory that is reflected in the NSS 2015 is Mackinder and Landpower. Mackinder was the protagonist of the theory of land power and he laid emphasis on the importance of geography as both an object of politics and an influence of international politics. Mackinder stated the theory of heartland and laid emphasis on the importance of land as a main feature of influencing international politics (Simon 2014). In my opinion, the NSS of 2015 is a reflection of the same theory as the President of the United States has also focused on security issues in America especially related to terrorism associated with land control. Prior to 19th century Sea and air powers were considered important, however, this is no longer true, as most of the world has been conquered and brought under human control (Simon 2013). The NSS 2015 contains a reflection of the similar view as it constantly focuses on maintaining and procuring international security with the help of appropriat e leadership skills. According to the heartland theory of Mackinder whoever, controlled the pivot area or the heartland shall control the international system as the wealth of resources with the help of the transportation technology Jennifer 2012). Unlike Mahans arguments related to sea power, the focus of Mackinder was on the heartland and the control over it. The contemporary political power resonated to this theory and followed Mackinder (Roland 2014). Conclusively, the NSS 2015 also contains a similar reflection of the Mackinder theory. Geopolitical Challenges identified in the NSS 2015: The following geopolitical challenges are identified in the NSS 2015: The possible propagation of weapons for destruction of the people, primarily, nuclear weapons, posed a serious risk. Though America has destroyed the core leadership of Al Qaida, however, the co related networks of ISIL and Al Qaida and other groups continued to threaten the citizens of the United States, partners and allies. Extremists continued to develop disturbance acros the North Africa and Middle East. Conflict influenced states protect infectious disease, unlawful weapons and people who smuggle drugs and destabilize the flow of the refugees. Failure on the part of the governance and unending corruption hold back the possibility of the development of the nation like the United States. The growing threat of cyber attack and cyber crime is continuing and the possibility of global economic crash continues. The steadfastness of the allies of the United Nations has hindered the growth and development of the nation as a whole. The spread of ebola virus and its foundation and. The spread of nuclear weapon materials, and; The environment by controlling the rate of emission of the carbon monoxide (National Security Strategy 2015) The President of the United States have stated the most important challenges and have also stated the ways of addressing the challenges as part of the NSS 2015. The United Nations shall seize the opportunities available so that economic order is prevailed and generation of new associations with emerging economic power shall lead to creation of democratic change within the country. The focus of the United Nations also remained on eliminating poverty so that America could establish on their competitive advantage in science, technology and innovation. The focus of the nation shall be on improving strength, security and prosperity of the nation at large. Threats not addressed sufficiently: Over the past few years, the threats to the United Nations security have multiplied, though the nation believed that after 14 years of war the threats would decrease. Rather than expanding the area of peace, Russias aggression in Ukraine continued. ISIL is an evolution of the Syrian War that destabilized force in an existing part of the world (Colin 2012). Hence, with respect to the NSS 2015, the following challenges are not addressed sufficiently as part of the scheme: The frustration with the United States is growing, because of the growing problems in the Middle East. It has been observed, that the problems of the Middle East are not addressed sufficiently in the NSS 2015 (Colin 2012). There is a widespread belief that the government of the United States does not understand the problem and fails to address the issue that prevails in the Middle East. The NSS 2015 has failed to identify the main features and trends that are associated in the international security environment. The NSS has not addressed the criteria for qualification for linking results with the means, ways and strategies laid in the article for addressing security issues. The NSS report has neglected the importance of European Security environment due to the annexation of Crimea. The report failed to address the importance of consensus with the European allies so that military readiness can be addressed easily and at the same time Americas role to security can be enhanced (National Security Strategy 2015). In my opinion, the reason why these challenges have not been addressed sufficiently is lack of time and association with priority assessments that made the United Nations focus less on the challenges mentioned above. Additionally, in the NSS 2015, America seems to focus more on the improvement of its economic power rather than its security power and hence, it has failed to address important issues relating to security with its allies. The least important threat identified and Reasons: The least important threats identified in the NSS 2015 are: The climatic change and; Ancient Regime Climatic change is the matter of national security issue; however, climatic change is a matter of weather patterns that have existed over the periods of many years. To control and stabilize the same, the nation has to first focus on the region that is affected by it and the reasons for the change in the climatic condition. The NSS 2015 has focused on the climatic change and its importance from the perspective of national security; however, it is not that important as the unidentified threat mentioned in the above section as climatic change is not directly the responsibility of one nation rather than important for the universe (National Security Strategy 2015) It was noted during the end of Cold War that many military action took place as part of the ancient regime. Many of these conflicts have resulted in victory. The national security apparatus that was built for meeting challenges during the cold war is still in place and the United Nation cannot afford a change in this measure in terms of money or military. Hence, this challenge could have been easily ignored as part of the NSS 2015. Addressing the geopolitical challenges: Yes, the geopolitical challenges identified in the NSS 2015 can be best addressed with air, land or sea power. The reason behind this is that the objectives that are laid in the NSS 2015 require redress of security issues pertaining to air, land or sea power. From the perspective of land power, America has the responsibility of international security as it serves the best interest of its allies and partners and addresses global issues of threat. From the perspective of sea and air power, the United States has an interest in freedom of navigation and overflight along with the safety of the air and sea environments (Robert 2012). Conclusion: Conclusively, it may be stated that though the NSS provides a strategy for sustaining and strengthening American leadership in the coming century, however, it fails to address some of the most important factors pertaining to security issues. This report has identified the challenges as stated in the NSS 2015 along with the least important challenges and the ways to address the issues pertaining to land, sea or air security.
