Suicide Is A Significant Decision For A Person - 1302 Words

Suicide is a substantial decision for a person to commit. This life choice can be viewed as a long term answer to an issue which is currently occurring in that persons life. The difficulties of people completing suicide is the notion of a person not reaching their full capabilities including but not limited to; life milestones, traveling, family, life lessons. Some may believe that suicide is deemed premature or not morally defensible before they reach the level of ataraxia, which is described by Hetherinton (2012) as â€Å"a pervasive inner peace that is a kind of purity and completeness in how one is living†¦ is genuine tranquillity, not a feeling of tranquillity†¦ We could state that ataraxia amounts to a fundamental peacefulness within the†¦show more content†¦I say this with the hopes that this individual would have an appropriate support system to direct them to the correct resources of care. The family/ support system has the financial capabilities of affor ding the appropriate care, such as but not limited to counselling and/or medication if needed. I also believe that if a person has reached the level of ataraxia and this person consistently feels as though they would rather be dead then alive, no matter the age of the person, then their suicide is morally defensible. Setting aside the sentiment of ataraxia, if a person is over the age of sixty-five, does their suicide become more defensible than someone who is under this age? The reason for addressing this issue is I feel that Westernized society does not value old age to the extent we value youth. McRory (2002) explains, Health care is becoming expensive around the world. As one of the cost-reduction measures, most of the health care providers are moving the patient’s data into electronic format (Electronic Medical Records). Even though this migration is necessary for efficient health care service, it opens up a big can of worms with respect to security and privacy issues.
